Lithuanian Christian Democrats, the Liberal Movement and the Freedom Party unveiled the draft coalition agreement on Thursday. You can read it all here.
“Without great exceptions, the agreement suits us and anyone else. It does not answer anything, not a single question, except the last part, where, in principle, it is written about the demands of the Freedom Party, where it is written” we will seek. “As a result,” we will strive “, we certainly will not strive and we will do everything possible not to achieve it,” promised Ramūnas Karbauskis, leader of the Lithuanian Union of Peasants and Greens (LVŽS), evaluating the content of the document.

On Omeny, he had that part of the treaty that set out the goals of legalizing gender-neutral alliances, writing Latin letters on personal documents, decriminalizing the possession of small amounts of psychoactive substances, ratifying the Istanbul Convention, and more.
On these issues, the positions of the members of the coalition parties are different, so there is no guarantee that this will be legalized. Still, the parties have pledged to make an effort to achieve this.
R. Karbauskis does not believe that everything will be implemented
R. Karbauskis doubted that the coalition would have enough votes to ratify the Istanbul Convention or decriminalize drug possession.
“The demands of the Freedom Party are very radical and unacceptable to many conservatives and members of the Liberal Movement,” he said, adding that some Social Democrats would not vote for him.
The politician considered whether the Freedom Party would stretch its position until the end of the term.
From what I wonder, the Freedom Party will be in a coalition that will not implement any of its proposals.
“As far as I’m interested, the Freedom Party will be in a coalition that will not implement any of its proposals. Because those voters, the young people who voted, must understand perfectly: that the party won 11 seats does not mean that in the Seimas, where there are 141, the proposals for which they voted are implemented, ”said R. Karbauskis.
He also said in the treaty that he saw the desire of the parties to deregulate drug prices, the prohibition of alcohol advertising, although the document does not even mention it.

“It can be assumed that there will be an attempt to deregulate drug prices, that there will be an attempt to lift the ban on alcohol advertising. It does not have such a precise name, but such an assumption can be made.
If those assumptions, intentions and statements are how to improve the life of the Lithuanian people, it is very sad, because none of those points says how that life will be better. What will they do differently and better than us? ”The LVS assistant compared.
He also said he wanted to know how the future majority would change the Constitution and hold a successful referendum on multiple citizenship. R. Karbauskis stated that he supported the same goal.
“I just don’t understand what they will do differently. We did everything and they also participated ”, he said.
G.Paluckas: “Includes the javu feeling “
Four years ago, LVŽS and the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) also had a part of the agreement in which the parties agreed not to agree on the legalization of the association, the writing of personal names, the establishment of the definition of family and other issues.
The president of the LSDP, Gintautas Paluckas, said that the situation was repeated.
We had a similar contract.
“It includes the javu sentiment compared to 2016 because we had a similar contract. All so-called progressive and human rights issues are dropped and left to their own devices. This is how it will turn out. And everything else is an abstraction, a statement of common principles. Anyone can sign here later. ” 15 minutes he said.
LVŽS and LSDP coalition agreement
During the election campaign, the LSDP came out in favor of legalizing same-sex couples, ratifying the Istanbul Convention or decriminalizing the use of soft drugs.
So, maybe there are issues that the party will support from the opposition and the position will not lack votes?
G. Paluckas reiterated that the votes will still be too small.
“And what do we put here? If it is a coalition of progress that will do it in 100 days, in 100 days. If someone has to save from the opposition right now, without starting anything, and everyone understands that it will not be done, we will stick to our program.

But even our votes in the conjuncture that I see now, when the conservatives do not compromise, would be lacking, “said the politician.
Even our votes would be missing.
The future coalition named a national agreement on education among the priority jobs. G. Paluckas agreed that this is a priority.
“Here we would hope that it is not only a limited interest of the coalition. I think that a supranational, mixed party, coordination center or working group would be necessary to present the reforms in preparation, so that the opposition is aware of it and can, if it is necessary, to criticize or to propose rationally ”, said the leader of the LSDP.
V. Uspaskich: “I agree with all the slogans”
The Labor Party, according to its leader Viktoras Uspaskich, will support the desire of some members of the coalition to hold a citizenship referendum again or to legalize the drafting of non-Lithuanian letters into documents. But generally speaking, politicians called the contract a “motto.”
“Slogan agreement, there is no specificity about the economy, the tax system, about regional policy. The slogans are very nice, good, I can agree with almost all the slogans ”, he commented.

V. Uspaskich pointed out that when “obligations are hung from other governments,” the agreement did not achieve the goal set by the Liberal Movement of refraining from taxing reinvested earnings.
Ladies and gentlemen, it is understandable that the public wants to please something, but there is no specificity.
“We will examine the article and investigate whether it would be possible to exempt reinvestments. Ladies and gentlemen, it is understandable that the public wants to please something, but there is no specificity. The other thing is that it has already broken its promises,” he said.
Conservatives and liberals still promise to review the draft treaty, but a final document is scheduled to be signed on Monday.
