Long-term unemployed in Lithuania have increased by almost 90%: job opportunities are decreasing

“The situation of jobseekers is also aggravated by the fact that currently due to the change in the economic situation, the uncertainty in the activities of the companies, the restriction or suspension of the activities of the companies, the choice of work and employment opportunities is declining. Therefore, as the job search period lengthens, more people become long-term unemployed, ”said Jurgita Zemblytė, head of the Employment Service’s Monitoring and Analysis Division.

During the nine months of this year, 258.7 thousand people applied for the Employment Service. 77.9 thousand or 30.1% of the job seekers had no professional training. The number of low-skilled people increased by 17.9% compared to the first three quarters of last year.

The number of long-term unemployed without vocational training increased by 91.7%, that of young people, by 79.3%, and that of people over 50 years of age, by 27.2%.

The situation is even worse for young people under the age of 29. 47 thousand had no professional qualification. 87.5 thousand youths. who applied to the Employment Service during the three quarters of this year. The number of young people without profession increased by 79.3% during the year.

In the age group over 50 out of 72 thousand. 19.7 thousand people registered. he had not acquired a professional qualification. Their number increased by 27.2 percent during the year. Meanwhile, 55.9 thousand were registered in the first nine months of last year. people over 50 years of age, of which – 15.5 thousand. he had no profession.

Vacancy analysis shows that in the three quarters of this year, 5.8 percent. The number of job offers for skilled workers and employees in the service sector increased by 61.6%. vacancies. Executive and professional jobs fell 1.4 percent. – 17.7 percent. in the corresponding period last year at 16.3 percent. this year. The largest decrease in job openings was recorded for unskilled workers: 4.4 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of job openings for skilled workers and service sector employees, most of whom have acquired vocational education, rose 5.8% compared to last year.
