The mobile checkpoint located in the Kaunas camp (Jonavos str. 51A) has been conducting more than a thousand COVID-19 tests every day for some time. Specialists estimate that this is the maximum amount per 100,000. population, among the three main cities of the country.
All three survey sample lines are operating at full capacity here, but a fourth will begin in the next few days. Another open-air pavilion will be erected in the same area on Friday.
The capacity of the mobile checkpoint will be further increased. With the activation of the four lines, it is expected to serve more than 1,200 people a day. Together with the residents of Kaunas, research is carried out here for people from the surrounding municipalities.
While testing takes place every two minutes at the mobile point, intermittent traffic jams have occurred recently at the entrance to the Kaunas camping area. They move quite fast, but the column of vehicles seems to stretch out again as more and more new cars join. This problem is most acute at night, when many patients come in for tests after work.
“We noticed that part of the population survey does not reach the moving point at the time indicated, but some people try to reach the end of the working day. From now on, everyone who registers for the survey is urged to report for the survey only at the exact time allotted. Everyone receives it by short SMS after registering with the Corona 1808 hotline. Otherwise, patients will simply not be accepted. We do our best to ensure that there are no queues and that the operation at the mobile checkpoint is safe and smooth, but it is also necessary that the people arriving understand themselves, ”said Paulius Keras, Head of the Center of Emergency Operations of the Municipality of the city of Kaunas.
The flow of arrivals at the entrance of the mobile checkpoint is regulated by security guards, and in recent days, police officers have also added to the fever during the peak.
The stricter arrival procedure will help avoid congestion and allow the Kaunas City Polyclinic doctors delegated here to work with a pre-planned constant load.
In order to ensure the comfort and safety of the visitors, the Kaunas City Municipality representatives also contacted the “Kauno tiltai” company. It was agreed to reorganize the adjacent road works to free an additional part of the first lane. It will be safer for visitors to arrive waiting their turn to enter the mobile checkpoint.
