Officials from the Šilutė Wildlife Protection Inspectorate of the Klaipėda Board of the Department of Environmental Protection arrested two people who were illegally fishing in the Šalpė River in the Veiviržas Ichthyological Reserve this weekend.
The individuals fished with prohibited gear for non-amateurs: two construction nets (25 m long, 1.8 m high, 70 mm porous) and caught nine sea trout. Currently, according to the procedure for calculating damage to fish stocks in inland waters, the basic price per sea trout is 970 euros. Since the offense was committed in a fish reserve, the amount of damages is calculated by applying a triple base rate.
Thus, offenders must pay 26,290 euros for damage to nature. An administrative infringement report (fine of 120 to 350 euros) was also drawn up for both persons for fishing with prohibited non-amateur fishing gear.
At the same time, agents of the Klaipėda Wildlife Inspectorate were detained again by the offender “full time”.
There were no fish in the nets built, but after inspecting the offender’s car, wet nets and salmon were found. The person admitted to catching salmon with nets in the Smiltel río River. An administrative infraction protocol (fine of 120 to 350 euros) has been drawn up for non-recreational fishing, which will be prohibited, and the fish populations will have to be compensated of 970 euros.
The officials of the Department of Environmental Protection thank everyone for their help and ask to report environmental violations to the emergency number 112 or the AAD Notification Service (8 5) 273 2995.
