Manager of the Santara Clinic: this is a much more serious disease than other viral diseases

“We do not plan to limit planned and necessary care. Of course, priority is given to such planned care that cannot be postponed: it is a course of chemotherapy, cancer diseases, transplantation, which is carried out at full speed. Until our human resources and otherwise they are critically depleted, we do not plan to limit planned assistance ”, emphasizes F. Jankevičius in the“ Delfi diena ”program.

According to him, 115 coronavirus patients are currently being treated in clinics, new departments are being created and infected doctors are being replaced by doctors and residents of other specialties.

“Today we can expand up to 10 extra beds, but of course we have the help of other hospitals. Thanks to them, we can significantly expand that number. Today, the Antakalnis Hospital, where 54 patients are treated, is the one that helps the most and the number can be further expanded ”, explains the director of the Santara clinics.

According to him, if necessary, Ukmergė, Alytus and other hospitals could still help relocate patients.

“I think we will find a way to hospitalize the patients and provide them with help, and we will be able to handle the situation,” says F. Jankevičius.

In addition, according to F. Jankevičius, the clinics promise to order ventilation devices from SAM again.

“We hope to have new devices that allow non-invasive lung ventilation. We would like to provide such equipment not only to the Santara clinics, but also to the remaining hospitals in eastern Lithuania. Most have, but still, I think there is a shortage, ”he says.

“We do not treat mild patients, we only hospitalize those who need help, mainly oxygen. It is a much more serious disease than other viral diseases. Those patients who suffer severely have a series of complications that not all of us are aware of today. The virus affects both the heart and other organ systems. This is a serious disease ”, emphasizes the head of the clinics.
