“There have been 18 raids and 14 arrests in Vienna and Lower Austria,” the minister told a news conference.
Police added, believing that the attack in central Vienna was carried out by an attacker who felt the “Islamic State” by Kujtimas Fejzula, 20, who was killed by police on Monday night.
The images evaluated by the police “do not currently show any evidence of a second attack,” Nehammer said.
A police chief, Gerhard Puerstl, said during the same press conference that other people showing their support for IS was being monitored.
“The reinforced police presence will continue,” he added.
Fejzula, who had Austrian and North Macedonian citizenship, was convicted last April of a terrorist offense related to his attempt to leave for Syria.
He was sentenced to one year and 10 months in prison.
According to K. Nehammer, K. Fejzulai participated in the de-radicalization program and in December managed to secure a premature launch.
“The perpetrator was able to suppress the program of de-radicalization of the justice system, stun its people and overcome it to be released prematurely,” the minister told a press conference.
Although Nehammer said he didn’t want to “point the finger,” he emphasized the need to “look very carefully at what could be improved” on the show.
