COVID-19 divides nations in two. Why do so many people still don’t believe in the virus? | Lifetime

“There is no virus. I don’t know anyone who has coronavirus. He wants to force us to get vaccinated. Idiots wear muzzles.”

“Liars. We work hard to reach 2,000 cases a day.”

“Nonsense. And God, how many lies, a complete circus.”

“Why wear masks outside that do not help but only increase the number of sick people? Repent if someone hurts healthy people.”

“Those who are in favor of universal quarantine must be collected and forced into quarantine to protect their psyche. Let everyone else live freely and decide for themselves how to behave. “

“You do not understand why the quarantine was partially announced from Wednesday, if almost every day new restrictions have already alienated Lithuanians, and it will be even worse in the future.”

We can only call these comments pearls of the unbelievers virus. It’s nice if they only write comments, but those pervasive virus deniers also walk the streets, visiting stores.

Here are some examples I have seen: A woman in a large supermarket takes soft buns (even without disposable gloves), checking to see if they are soft. Hair rattles, right? Did we buy that food? Let’s not buy it anymore. Supermarkets must ensure that security works properly and monitor customer behavior.

The second example is the eagles, who have managed to get their nicknames: “pimpanosiai”, you will not call it otherwise. For them, a mask is like by the way. As if there were, as if not, the most important thing is that nobody gets attached. They are not threatened by the virus and are in no way carriers of COVID-19, and relentless self-confidence guarantees 100% protection.

Grainy, ironic or not, but after hanging that mask only on the chin, they boldly march in the same supermarkets, climb the elevators (where there is a higher probability of infection), stand in the lines of the stores. Again, where is the protection, what does it do, and why not pay attention to wearing masks indoors? We are probably fined sooner if the police see us outside after briefly removing a mask than those “pimpanos”?

The pandemic progressed. And our approach?

Psychologists Eve and Mark Whitmore have spent a lot of time in recent years investigating bias in misinformation and validation. According to them, in March and April we did not have as much information as we do now, and some of the information was contradictory, which contributed to people’s feeling of insecurity. Some people felt great anxiety and stress and searched for information that would reinforce (or justify) their opinion that a pandemic is not really as serious as it is said and presented.

“Both denial and rationalization are considered inappropriate, they do not help a person adapt to the source of the threat. In a pandemic, you can get sick because if you deny it, you rationalize the seriousness of the situation because you probably don’t take the necessary precautions to protect yourself, “says Whitmore.

According to Eve Whitmore, there are people who want to get infected and infected with the virus as soon as possible, and there are those who think they have gotten sick and have immunity even though they haven’t even been tested. It is very important to consciously assess the situation and set an example for others: wear a mask, wash your hands, maintain a social distance.

Very good if the virus is easily transmitted and if it is in severe form? Well, while it’s not difficult, it’s wrong and pointless to “leave” the job market for at least two weeks, not to mention weakened immunity, unpleasant tests, risk of getting sick, and a severe form of COVID-19 for family members, plus cases and a longer quarantine. These facts should suffice for anyone in doubt.

Thanks to those who share their stories, especially the public figures who influence both the young and the old. Acknowledging and speaking openly about the symptoms of the disease is a strength, not a weakness, as it helps raise public awareness.

Going crazy is of no use to anyone, but if you could at least put on a mask for yourself and others when you go out in public, the karma would definitely be worth it, as would those who believe that COVID-19 exists and will not go away, so why not protect each other?
