Vilnius “Rytas” changes the European Cup to the FIBA Champions League competition. According to the BasketNews.lt website, the decision on this change has already been made, and FIBA will officially announce it in the near future.
Colons are thrown this season
This will end almost two decades of Rytas cooperation with the Euroleague organization. Vilnius residents have been participating in their tournaments since 2003 and have won the ULEB Cup twice during this period.
Vilnius residents also played in the Euroleague for six seasons, the last time being in 2013-14. season.
Rytas will not be the only club to progress from the European Cup to the Champions League. There should be 2-3 more of these teams.
Last week, Sportando.com website announced that Daruschafaka from Istanbul was considering being promoted to the Champions League.
Last season, two Lithuanian clubs: Panevėžys “Lietkabelis” and Klaipėda “Neptūnas” played in the FIBA Champions League.
