It is suspected that the mayor demands a bribe of 10 thousand euros for favoritism in the implementation of the project to improve the municipal public space. Today, the mayor was detained by STT officials after accepting part of the required bribe: 5,000 euros.

During the investigation, STT officials took important documents from the Kelmė Municipal District and conducted other necessary pre-trial investigation activities.

The pre-trial investigation is controlled and directed by the Prosecutor of the Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Division of the Šiauliai Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

Among other things, STT officials in the Kelmė District Municipality took the necessary documents for the pre-trial investigation and took other actions necessary for the investigation.

Gabrielė Petkuvienė, a representative of the Šiauliai Regional Prosecutor’s Office, informed BNS that the detained mayor has not yet been questioned and that the issue of granting and removing a preventive detention measure should be resolved in the coming days.

V. Andrulis was elected mayor on the municipal council and the mayoral elections held last year, and was nominated by the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania.

Colleagues do not understand why.

The Kelmė district municipality administration is surprised by the arrest of V. Andrulis: Deputy Mayor Egidijus Ūksas says he knows nothing, and the director of administration Stasys Jokubauskas says the mayor’s arrest was a surprise to him.

“I can only say what is in the STT report.” I don’t know anything else, “the deputy mayor told BNS.

He said he had met with the mayor at a meeting Tuesday until noon, so the mayor could be detained during lunch.

“Today we were in a meeting for an event until 12:30, everything happened here, as I understand it, during lunch,” said E. Ūksas.

At that time, the director of the S. Jokubauskas administration says that the mayor’s arrest was a surprise to him.

“I don’t know, when you work with a person, you see how they behave, if there were similar symptoms. Absolutely nothing, incredible,” said the head of the BNS administration.

He said that he had met the mayor and elder of Šaukėnai at 11 o’clock.

“We had an appointment with the mayor in his office at 11 a.m. and then, in the afternoon, we read the following information. Together with the old man, we decided on territorial planning due to the dissatisfaction of the residents, ”said S. Jokubauskas.

The director of administration also confirmed that some documents had been taken from the municipality, three cases, but did not reveal which ones.
