Sakartwell Opposition Does Not Recognize Election Results

After counting the votes of 58 percent. electoral districts, the Sakartvelas svajonė party led with 49.32 percent. opposition parties, with 44.47 percent in favor. voters. Elections are based on the principle of proportional representation and decide who will hold 120 of the 150 seats in parliament.

The ruling party leader, former prime minister, billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili, said his party “won the third election in a row” and that the people of the country “chose a wonderful team.”

However, opposition leader Mikhail Saakashvili, the country’s former president, accused Sakartwell’s dream of falsifying the election results and urging his supporters to defend “their voices.”

A few months before the elections, Saakashvili’s “United National Movement” and the smaller opposition parties displayed unprecedented unity and joined forces to challenge the ruling party.

They even held talks to form a coalition in case of victory.

Due to the complex electoral system, the full makeup of Sacrockwell’s Parliament will not be clear until late November.
