“Flows have decreased compared to what it was before Thursday,” SBGS representative Giedrius Mišutis said on Saturday.

According to him, about 100 cars crossed the Lithuanian-Belarusian border in both directions during the last day at the Medininkai checkpoint. When the restriction was imposed on Thursday, there were about 300 of them.

“Of that 100, about 70 come from Belarus,” said G. Mišutis.

Around 50 to 80 cars per day used to pass through the Šalčininkai point, now there are about 20 of them.

“More Belarusians are traveling who have Lithuanian residence permits or work visas. The largest category is the bearers of Belarusian citizens,” G. Mišutis told BNS.

According to him, on the last day nine people returned, that is, they were not allowed to enter Belarus. Among them were Lithuanian and Ukrainian citizens.

“Route buses work, but are only used by Belarusian citizens. Two” Vilnius-Minsk “routes passed through Medininkai per day, one” Druskininkai-Grodno “bus route passed through Raigardas point, confirmed the SBGS representative.

Trucks cross the border unhindered.

Belarus closed the border with Lithuania for passenger transport on Thursday afternoon, citing security requirements for the coronavirus.

Initially, Belarusians and foreigners were not allowed to enter the country, but later Belarusians were allowed to return, as well as foreigners who had work visas, work contracts or residence permits in Belarus.

Belarus has been protesting against authoritarian President Aliaksandr Lukashenko for more than two months. Mr. Lukashenko had announced in September that the border with Lithuania would be closed, but no action was taken at that time.
