However, this hospital, like some of the other five so-called coronavirus patient support centers, is already facing a staff shortage.

Remigijus Mažeika, director of the Republican Hospital Šiauliai, told BNS that the hospital currently has 81 fully equipped places for COVID-19 patients, another 20 will be installed in an additional room.

According to the director, as the number of patients increases, they will be treated at Mažeikiai hospital, where up to 20 infected people could be admitted.

According to R. Mažeika, coronavirus patients are currently being treated in other hospitals where outbreaks have occurred, so some regional hospitals may already be treated as “cowardly” hospitals.

“We have 81 beds that are up and running at full capacity, and if there are now about 70 patients, we still have to prepare a team that will work in the additional room, about 20 places for critically ill and critically ill patients. We have 12 resuscitation positions, we will have 20 and today there are eight patients, ”said the director.

According to him, up to ten patients infected with coronavirus are admitted to the Šiauliai Republican Hospital per day.

As the director noted, COVID-19 patients are already being treated at other hospitals in the region and the network of such facilities will need to expand as the Republican hospital will not be able to accommodate all patients without disrupting emergency care.

“The general situation in the region is that our patients are already being treated in several hospitals, it could begin with the fact that 24 COVID-19 nursing patients are being treated at Plungė hospital, Kelmė hospital already has three, they are taking many smears, the Kuršėnai nursing hospital has 25 patients, all of them are mild to moderate and do not require intensive care, so they are treated in hospitals where outbreaks have occurred, just as they have become “combat” hospitals ”Said R. Mažeika.

The director of the Republican Hospital Šiauliai also confirmed that the hospital is already facing the problem of staff shortages, as there are 50 officials infected with the coronavirus, and some of them are in isolation.

“The hospital staff is sick, we have about 50 patients, of which there are few doctors, but every day during the preventive examination we find that the infected are also isolated and this causes very serious problems,” said R. Mažeika.

With the completion of five support hospitals in the country, coronavirus patients are planned to be admitted to smaller treatment facilities in other regions as well.
