Last September, the Seimas approved amendments to the Alcohol Control Law, which prohibited the sale of beverages with an alcohol concentration greater than 6% in plastic containers with a capacity greater than 0.2 l. The amendments that will enter into force also prohibit the sale in Lithuania of alcoholic beverages with a concentration of ethyl alcohol greater than 22% by volume, packed at the factory in glasses, glasses and other containers intended for direct consumption of beverages.

For the new provisions, which will come into force in 2020. On November 1, 72 members of the Seimas voted against, 1 against and 8 deputies abstained.

These amendments to the Alcohol Control Act are intended to restrict products intended exclusively for drinkers. This is expected to lead to the disappearance of these products from the market and reduce alcohol consumption, especially among alcoholics.
