Special operation: a helicopter transported an organ from a donor from Klaipeda to Kaunas

On Wednesday, October 28, after receiving a request from the National Transplant Office to transplant an organ, the LTO Mi-8T helicopter took off from the 2nd search and rescue post (Kaunas) and from the Kauno Klinikos Public Institution to the Public Institution from Vilnius University Hospital Santara Clinic presented the necessary organ for the transplant operation. Transporting the organ took more than half an hour, according to a press release from the Ministry of National Defense.

Today, October 30, the crew of the LTO Eurocopter AS365 Dauphin helicopter, led by Maj. Laimis Aleknavičius, from the public institution Klaipėda Seamen’s Hospital, transferred the organ required for the donor to the public institution Kauno klinikos.

“Although the weather conditions were not good today, we did this task successfully. We hope that our efforts will help save human lives,” said May. L. Aleknavičius.

In addition to other duties, the Air Force also conducts on-call search and rescue stations and, when necessary, conducts medical evacuation and rescue duties, transports donor organs for transplant operations and disrupted limb replantation operations.
