“A candidate is sought, potential candidates are coordinated with the president. It is possible that the candidacy of the head of the VPN will be presented to the Prime Minister of this period”, the position of BNS S. Skvernelis was handed over by his spokesman Tomas Beržinskas.

Such a possibility was not ruled out by G. Nausėda, who told a press conference on Wednesday that such a non-political post can best be filled in the last month of government work.

“Indeed, if the designation is not political in nature, but relates to a specific regulated activity, be it the VPN or some other public authority, that decision may well be made in the near future, but I will remind you that this requires a two-way consensus. “Said the head of state.

According to unofficial information, the candidacy of the future director of VPN was agreed, promises to present and appoint in the next week.

The president noted that in the past there had been cases in which he and the prime minister had different views on the candidates, but said he believed that if an agreement was reached, the appointment could be made “because it is a normal political activity.”

VPN has not had a permanent boss for a year, since October last year, when Diana Vilytė resigned from this position. The Office is temporarily headed by Deputy Director Jovita Petkuvienė.

G. Nausėda has previously said that the search for a candidate for the post of head of service is stalled, because due to non-competition about 2 thousand. It is difficult to find a “competitive person” in this position.

“It is a bit surprising when a person earns 2000. per month and manages 5 billion. The budget of the euro (the volume of public procurement – BNS) per year and a lot depends on their decisions, ”said the president.

At the time, Prime Minister S. Skvernel had previously said that he had submitted more than one candidacy for president, but that they were not acceptable to the head of the country, so the search continues.

By law, the head of the VPN is appointed by the country’s president on the recommendation of the prime minister for a period of four years.

Ingrida Šimonytė and Gabrielius Landsbergis, the leaders of the Union of the Lithuanian Christian Homeland-Democrat, which is forming a new center-right coalition, urged outgoing rulers this week to refrain from new appointments and recruits.
