October 22 According to the Criminal Customs Service, a German citizen arrived at the Medininkai roadside post from Belarus by bicycle, towing a suitcase on wheels.
This person (a Tajik citizen with a permanent residence permit in Belarus) told officials that he was returning from a trip to Belarus, where he sold his apartment. In Lithuania, at a gas station near the border post, he had left his car with which he intended to continue his journey to Germany.
Customs officials checked the person’s luggage in detail. There was no need to search for a long time: after removing the clothes from the suitcase, opening the lining, two bags with yellowish powder were found. An initial drug identification test by officials from the Criminal Customs Service (CCS) found that the substance found was possibly heroin. Then the traveler was quick to convince him that the suitcase was not his, he simply agreed to transport it across the border at the request of strangers.
Customs offenders detained the said citizen and drugs, and a pre-trial investigation into smuggling and illegal possession of large quantities of drugs was launched at the Vilnius branch of the MKT. The investigating prosecutor from the Vilnius Regional Public Prosecutor’s Office addressed the court and requested that this person remain in pre-trial detention.
According to the decision of the Vilnius City District Court, the German citizen was detained for three months.
