As the neighbors of Pilait residents write on social media, Pilaitės ave. The benefits of the newly installed speedometer are unquestionable: Lane A will finally hold up, with chaos in the mornings. This and several other new meters installed in Žirmūnai are related to new projects.
„Žirmūnų and Tuskulėnų str. three meters are being installed due to the Žirmūnai Triangle project being carried out here. During its development, bike lanes and pedestrian sidewalks will be installed, traffic lights will be rebuilt, road user safety will be increased, and additional traffic control will be introduced: speedometers will record speeding and red light violations .
Also during the construction of a new commercial building on Pilaitės Ave. A stationary infraction recording device is planned, which will record not only speeding, but also violators in the “A lane” of public transport, – explained Miglė Bielinytė , communication manager of SĮ “Įimoimo paslaugos”.
According to her, the four of these meters related to the development of specific objects in the city are currently being coordinated, contractors and manufacturers will carry out calibration, programming, connection to the Administrative Offenses Registry system and other works. Some of the meters are expected to start operating this year.
There are currently 18 stationary speedometers in operation in Vilnius.
Next year, even more speedometers
15 minutes I already wrote on the planned municipal public procurement (not yet completed) for the purchase of another 32 meters. However, as Aleksejus Apanovičius, head of the Urban Traffic Management Department of Transportation Services explained, the previously planned purchase start time has been postponed taking into account the pandemic situation and after evaluating new relevant criteria.
“The city of Vilnius, together with specialists from SĮ Sazimo paslaugos, also considered the need for rape recording equipment in the city. Prior to its acquisition, updated information on black spots, traffic accidents in the city in 2019 and other criteria was considered to ensure that the newly purchased violation detection equipment better meet expectations and help ensure traffic safety.
After collecting all the necessary data and assessing the new need, the procurement documents are now being prepared and the actual procurement is expected to be published by the end of the year. The specific number and location of the violation recording devices will be specified later, the installation itself is planned for next year, ”said A.Apanovičius.
What will the new meters do?
A.Apanovičius states that the speedometers will monitor all lanes of traffic and record violations of the permitted speed of approaching or moving vehicles, as well as violators entering the intersection when the traffic light is on.
Additionally, the new gauges will cover up to 6 lanes, so they will also be able to monitor A lanes. All devices will be equipped with an Automatic License Plate Recognition (ANPR) system, which can recognize the numbers of the offending vehicle and determine which number of state registration of the country are in the photograph of the crime.
