Valentinas, who worked nearby and told “Western Express” about the find, said the car, believed to be in Spanish numbers, was parked in the woods for two days.
“I also heard some barking yesterday, but I thought what foxes are running. Today I came to see and saw that there were dogs left ”, said the man.
Upon arrival, the police officers opened the rear door of the car. About 15 dogs were found locked in the cages. Water was brought to them, it is said, they drank greedily. There was another puppy in the cabin of the car.
Representatives of “Nuaro” were summoned, an attempt was made to find out exactly how many dogs are in the car, what their condition is, food and water that was brought to them.
It is not clear under what circumstances the car was left. Admittedly, the man who found the car claimed that the back door was a bit useful.
According to Nuaro employees, the hunting dogs are English Setters. Some of them melt. Animal shelter staff were surprised that there were even several dogs in the cages, although one cage should be for one animal, some four-legged people were listless, unresponsive.
A total of 17 dogs were counted in the cages. It has been speculated if this could be cruelty to animals or if the car belongs to multipliers. The confusion was due to the fact that the car was registered outside of Lithuania.
Returned from the hunt
While the animals were being cared for and awaiting the arrival of the representatives of the elderly and the State Food and Veterinary Service (SFVS), a shot was heard in the forest and several more dogs of this breed ran towards the car.
A Spanish-speaking man carrying a rifle back to the car pushed all the four-legged ones into the cages.
To the services and journalists, the man explained in broken English that he hunts birds and therefore trains hunting dogs.
The driver of the car called a woman, who stated in Russian that the dogs had been brought to Lithuania from abroad and that they were being groomed for an international championship here. The woman, who introduced herself on behalf of Julia, also taught that the dogs belong to owners from different countries.
It is true that SFVS specialists claimed that the person who met in the forest was named the owner of some vaccine certificates.
Everything is fine?
Several foreigners, Spaniards and Italians are said to have stayed in Švėkšna, who supposedly come every year to hunt birds and train dogs. This information was also confirmed to journalists by the local elder.
Those who introduced themselves as dog trainers said that they travel with dogs in this way throughout Europe and that no one has been bothered by the conditions of dog transport so far.
SFVS specialists said the documents state that these are hunting, sporting dogs, which are subject to certain standards, which can make the dogs appear thin. The car in question, they say, is for transportation only, it says that animals are not kept in it at all times.
Therefore, so far no violations have been identified.
According to Nuint representative Gintarė Liutkuvienė, many problems arise due to the fact that there is no regulation on how dogs should be transported. It is said that it is established how pigs or cattle should be transported, but there are no specific requirements for transporting dogs.
