NASA astronaut Chris Cassidy and Russian astronauts Anatoly Ivanishin and Ivan Wagner at 2.54 pm During Greenwich Mean Time (5.54 am Lithuanian), the Soyuz MS-16 spacecraft landed in a capsule about 147 km southeast of the Kazakh city of Jezkazgan, images from Russia’s Roskosmos space agency show.
Dmitry Rogozin, head of Roskosma, confirmed the landing went smoothly and greeted the returning crew via Twitter.
Russian cosmonauts Sergei Rizhkov, Sergei Kudis-Sverchkov, and NASA astronaut Kathleen Rubins remained at TKS.
A.Ivanišinas, I.Vagneris and Ch.Cassidy flew to TKS on April 9. During their mission at TKS, they carried out a series of science experiments and station maintenance work. Among other things, they detected an air leak site in the Russian segment of TKS and sealed it.
Russian space program officials said returning crew members will be flown back to Jezkazgan by helicopter. The Russian astronauts will fly back to Moscow from there, and Ch Cassidy will return to the United States immediately.
According to the Russian Astronaut Training Center, the returning crew members are being cared for by specialists who have been screened for COVID-19 coronavirus infection, but communications and other precautions will be taken during communication.
