Research on a vaccine being developed by the University of Oxford and the British-Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca is likely to take a hiatus until the cause of the young man’s death is determined.
The vaccine developers and the Brazilian authorities have not yet officially announced whether the volunteer has been vaccinated. Bloomberg reports, according to its sources, that Brazil has been injected with a placebo.
AstraZeneca already had to suspend vaccine trials in September. The company later stated that one of the study participants had experienced “serious side effects.”
Johnson & Johnson stopped testing the vaccine in October. In this case, “unexplained side effects were also seen for one of the study participants.”
Russia has also faced problems with the reliability of its vaccine. Russian Duma deputy Valery Gartung reported a positive coronavirus test despite participating in the experimental test group for the Sputnik vaccine (one of two vaccines registered in Russia).
According to the politician, he believes that he is on the list of subjects who received placebo and therefore developed coronavirus.
Ireland is the first EU country to revert to stricter coronavirus restrictions, almost identical to the spring “beard.” As of October 21, the measures will take effect for at least 6 weeks.
