Lithuania will seek to establish a European Union (EU) cybersecurity center at the Vilnius TV Tower.

This initiative was approved by the Government on Wednesday.

There is currently a competition for a place where the EU member state will be located. The issue was discussed informally and it was decided to support Lithuania in establishing the center in Vilnius (…). The candidates are currently Belgium, Romania, Poland and Spain, and more recently Luxembourg, said Raimund Karoblis, defense minister.

According to him, Lithuania currently proposes to provide premises for at least five years to the center, but if there is an informal indication that another candidate intends to provide premises for the entire planned period, i.e. nine years, the Search Minister

Member States must decide to establish a European Center of Excellence for Cybersecurity Industries, Technologies and Research in November and it could suddenly become operational next year.

According to the Defense Ministry, the center could be located in the Television Tower, which could employ 3,050 people.

Lithuania’s contribution during the first five years of operation of the center is expected to reach around 1 million. Eur, the activities of the center will be financed by the EU budget.

The center should become the main EU instrument for promoting the European Cyber ​​Security Initiative and developing cyber security research and technology, according to the Defense Ministry.

At the initiative of Lithuania, the group created a rapid reaction cyber force in the EU.
