Jonas Svilainis was born in 1920. February 8, and the village of Kuršiškės, Želva parish, Ukmergė county.

Since 1945 – Partisan of the Lightning Squad of Team B of the Great Combat District. Named after the lion’s pseudonym, he participated for three years in the forests of the Anykščiai, Molėtai, Ukmergė districts, in the Žaibo, Diedukas and Audra units of the Great District Fighting “B” team.

In the early morning of September 19, 1947, together with his companions, he was unexpectedly surprised in the bunker installed in the house of the occupants of Šilininkai, in the house of J. Giedraitis. The partisans Juozas Petronis – Audra, Bronius Gaidelis – Šiaudas, Juozas Stancelis – Šalna, Alfonsas Darulis – Leopard and the 20-year-old liaison officer Marija Švoinickaitė were killed during the attack. Only Jonas Svilainis-Leo and two liaison officers survived.

1948 February 28 Jonas Svilainis-Leo was sentenced to 25 years. camps.

Imprisoned in Vorkuta, he worked hard in a coal mine, he was active in 1953. Participant in the uprising of political prisoners in the Vorkuta camp. After 10 years in prison, he returned to Lithuania and soon married and had 2 daughters.

2010 November 3 Jonas Svilainis-Leo received the Officer Cross of the Order of the Vytis Cross.
