According to the prosecutor’s office, a pre-trial investigation into the incident was launched last fall after receiving a statement from a female victim that she had been beaten and raped by two men in an apartment.
The investigation found that two men, ages 47 and 38, who had previously been convicted of violent crimes, beat a woman with at least 13 blows to the head and other parts of the body, breaking her nose.
According to the prosecution, the convicts did not admit their guilt either during the investigation or in court.
In the Panevėžys District Court trial, which ended in July this year, the fact that the men acted in a group of accomplices and committed the crime while intoxicated was also recognized as aggravating.
In the opinion of the superior court, the District Court examined the case in detail, exhaustively and impartially and drew reasonable conclusions about the guilt of the convicted persons.
The pre-trial investigation in this case was conducted by officers from the Criminal Police Serious Crimes Investigation Board of the Panevėžys County Main Police Station, and the investigation was conducted by Sandra Povilonienė, First Attorney’s Office. Prosecution Division of the Panevėžys Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
This decision takes effect immediately, but can be appealed on cassation to the Supreme Court of Lithuania.
