Readers of the news portal tv3.lt say that the water is bad in Jonava. After disinfecting Jonava Vandenai’s drinking water, people were so scared that there was a shortage of water in the shops. Emilija, a Jonava resident who told the portal about the situation in Jonava, says that the water shelves in the stores are empty.

“Yesterday and the day before yesterday, I felt that I had run out of water. Especially in 5-liter bottles,” says Emilija.

According to the girl, such behavior of the buyers was provoked by the communication of Jonava Vandenai herself, as they themselves warned people to boil the water.

“It was said that the water can be drunk, that everything is in order and that only disinfection work is done, so that the smell of chlorine or mud is felt, the taste has changed. It is already said that it is not possible to drink it at all, which is why people buy in droves. This week he recommended boiling or buying in the store, because there are some bacteria ”, says Emilija.

Supermarkets will bring more water

Jonava’s big supermarkets say they have really noticed an increase in demand for water. People are buying water in droves and stores have been forced to bring more water to the city.

“This week, since Tuesday, sales of drinking water at the Maxima stores in Jonava have almost doubled. In response to this customer demand, we have increased the volume of orders for drinking water in larger capacities, so we are ready and there will be no shortage of drinking water in the stores ”, says Ernesta Dapkienė, Director of the Communication and Image Department of Maxima.

Retail chain Iki says all water tanks are noted to be popular in the city.

“People are buying water in droves. As far as we know, the municipality has circulated a message that residents must have at least 5 liters of water each. We have four stores in Jonava and the best-selling product in all of them is water. We are currently organizing an additional supply of water so that the population does not run out of water and can buy it, ”says Vaida Budrienė, Iki’s communication manager, to the news portal tv3.lt.

Water at home

The municipality has nothing to do

When the news portal tv3.lt contacted the municipality of Jonava, it denied the statement about the recommendation that the residents have water resources.

“It just came to our notice then. Exactly 5 liters? No, it was a bit miscommunicated. Chlorine was released into the water, people felt it and panicked. There were also politicians who rushed to rescue and call Máxima and ask that more water be bought. Actually, everything is over and that water is good. There was no report from the municipality, “says the representative of the municipality Evaldas Utyra.

Aguas de Jonava: the water is safe

Romas Keliauskas, director of Jonava Vandenai, says that drinking water is completely safe and residents should not break into stores.

“The water can be drunk, it does not have or has had microbiological contamination. People have inflated the bubble, perhaps the lack of communication from us ”, says R. Keliauskas to the news portal tv3.lt.

The director of the company says that he drinks the water directly from the tap, and residents are simply advised to boil the water for holy peace.

“I drink raw and everything is fine, but man is not equal to man. Maybe something is wrong with the stomach. But nowhere in the scientific literature is it written that water is harmful because there is no microbiological contamination. We only recommend boiling, ”says R. Keliauskas.

According to the director of Jonava Vandenai, a study of drinking water was carried out on October 5, which found that the number of colonies in the water had increased. According to the director, this is not contamination, but just an indication that prior action is needed.

“If I don’t disinfect, I will definitely have microbiological contamination in a week. We did, on October 8. prachloravom. A sodium hypochlorite solution was added to the drinking water,” says R. Keliauskas.

According to the director, this solution added to the water reacted with the manganese and caused an unpleasant smell for the population, which caused the residents of Jonavis to empty the water shelves.
