Team Kaunas “Žalgiris” (3/0) scored no more than six minutes in the fourth quarter, but won in the Euroleague for the third time in a row.

For the last time, Žalgiris started in the Euroleague with three wins in 2012-2013. season, when the Kaunas club was run by Joanas Plaza. That season, the people of Žalgiris won up to five wins in a row at the start of the season.
The Kaunas club was led by Lukas Lekavičius, who scored 16 points, and Joffrey Lauvergne scored 12.
For the losers, Jordan Loyd scored 19 points.
“Žalgiris” slowly started the match, scoring just four points in the first five minutes of the game and then running seven points deficit.
However, the reserve basketball players who appeared on the field broke the match and after Paulius Jankūnas’ points “Žalgiris” led 15-14. At the end of the half, the score was equal to 19 points. In the first, Lukas Lekavičius only scored seven points.
Joffrey Lauvergne scored six points in a row in the second half and the French lead “Žalgiris” broke 36 – 31. This was the biggest advantage of the Kaunas residents at the time.
At the end of the second half, “Žalgiris” was leading 39 – 33.
At the start of the third quarter, Nigel Hayes increased Žalgiris’ lead by three points to nine points. But then the guests lost 11 points without an answer and the Kaunas players were 42-44 behind.
“Žalgiris” tied the game after that, and at the end of the quarter, after a difficult shot from Augustine Rubit, led 62-60.
After playing for more than a minute in the fourth quarter, Jordan Loyd reduced Žalgiris’ lead to two points. R. Jokubaitis’ three points then increased the difference to seven points. Crvena Zvezda did not score for nearly six minutes, while Loyd’s points reduced Kaunas’ lead to five points.
At the start of the penultimate minute of the match, “Žalgiris” was five minutes without points, and the Serbs were close to two points – 69-67.
The hosts had the opportunity to compare the score, but they threw it away. After that, L.Lekavičius stepped onto the free throw line 39 seconds ago, made both free throws and increased the difference to four points. It also stopped the drought in Žalgiris for almost 6:39 minutes.
Kaunas residents later consolidated the victory by issuing fines.
On Thursday, Žalgiris will host basketball players from Istanbul Anadolu Efes.
Lukas Lekavicius was Zalgiris’ top scorer with 16 points and 4 assists in a 75-69 road win against Crvena Zvezda Belgrade. ⚡️
