Degrees of “Žalgiris”: nineteen-year-old leader and finally brilliant L.Lekavičius

[ad_1]

Kaunas “Žalgiris” started the Euroleague double week strong and defeated Belgrade basketball players Crvena Zvezda by 75:69. This was the Kaunas residents’ third victory at the start of the new season, allowing them to establish themselves at the top of the tournament table.

The Krepsinis.net portal reviewed the individual performance of Žalgiris players in Belgrade and rated it with ratings.

# 0 Thomas Walkup (14 min., 0 points, 2 reps, 2 reps, 1 pm, -4 helpful votes). Rating – 4.

If we look at the numbers alone, the American performance would be worth a negative note, but there were also good things in Th.Walkup’s game. First of all, it is necessary to take into account the good leadership of the team game: in a couple of situations, the player played perfectly picenrole with top players. Surprisingly, Jordan Loyd’s defense hasn’t been entrusted to him since the start of the match, and Th.Walkup has only cared for it since the third quarter. Although mistakes were inevitable in slowing down the leader of the rivals, Žalgiris basically coped with their tasks. Currently, the most important contribution of this basketball player is missing in the attack. With no points, the last time Th.Walkup faced was in January 2019, when he failed to score a match for Fenerbahche Istanbul during his debut season in the Euroleague.

LekavičiusLekavičius

# 4 Lukas Lekavičius (25 min., 16 points, 4 res., 2 points, 20 points). Rating – 9.

The player started the match very solidly and brought a lot of life to Kaunas’ stagnant attack. Only in the first quarter L. Lekavičius scored 7 points. The defender had on several occasions managed to stop the more athletic players on the opponent’s perimeter “1 on 1”, but made up for it with a rough game on the other side of the field. Before this match, the player had not taken a single long shot in the Euroleague and scored 2 3-pointers of 3 attempts in the Belgrade basket. During the first two Euroleague matches, it seemed that L. Lekavičius could not find a place in Martin Schiller’s schemes, but this match denied it and the player went back to doing what he did best: he scored points in different ways.

# 10 Nigel Hayes (19 min., 8 points, 5 reps, 2 reps, 13 helpful votes). Rating – 7.

Recently, a series of arrows of criticism have fallen on the American target, but the party in Belgrade has bounced off a significant number of them. Hayes’ performance in offense depends largely on whether the basketball player hits from a distance. Applying risk to his rivals on the perimeter, the American missed the first 2 triples, but the others made it to goal 2. You may want the tall man to be a little more active and closer to the basket, but so far not poses a great threat to his opponents from there. Hayes generally fought well on rebounding and performed well on defense. He remains the best option for Žalgiris on defense in defense swap situations.

# 13 Paulius Jankūnas (16 min., 4 points, 5 rebounds, 1 bl., 7 points). Rating – 6.

Crvena Zvezda did not have as mobile front-line players as we have seen even in Chimki, a sparsely populated Moscow region with viruses and injuries, so Jankūnas was much more confident with those opponents. The captain played well in defense throughout the game and shone in attack in the 4th quarter, when he scored 2 important points for the team. It is a bit unfortunate that, after several attacks, P. Jankūnas could not use the advantage created, when J. Loyd was ahead of him. A basketball player who has experienced these types of episodes should easily translate into points.

# 21 Artūras Milaknis (17 min., 2 reps, 1 p., 1 bl., 1 us.). Rating – 3.

After a solid match in Mytiščiai, we saw a much more limited A. Milaknis in this match. The sniper launched from the 3-point zone only once during the time played and that shot was inaccurate. For this, merits can also be awarded to the defense of the rivals, who managed to surround the sniper of “Žalgiris”. A. Milaknis himself is a mature player and he reconciled himself to the supporting role in the match and avoided difficult shots or unnecessary mistakes.

# 23 Martin Geben (6 min., 5 points, 2 reps, 1 bl. Score –6.

Although the pivot played little, they used their minutes effectively. When M. Geben was in the top five of “Žalgiris”, the whole game was the one that was attacked the most and revolved around him. Throughout the evening, Kaunas attacked rivals pikenrolais, and Geben was one of those people who racked up all the points. On defense, the midfielder had a difficult task: stopping Ognjenas Kuzmičius, who beat Žalgiris center in 1v1 situations. This probably limited the midfielder’s minutes in this match.

# 24 Augustine Rubitas (17 min., 8 points, 2 reps, 1 res., 2 pm, 7 pp.). Rating – 7.

It is obvious that A. Rubitas feels better and better in the “Žalgiris” jersey, but this time he couldn’t help but make mistakes. Memorable moments in which A. Rubitas took a step and won a free kick in attack. It was not an easy task for him to stop O. Kuzmičius on defense, but being more mobile than his opponents, A. Rubitas scored points from mid-range in attack and did so with a very high percentage: he hit 3 points out of 4. The newcomer who started the season is becoming an increasingly important player. and its strengths practically raise questions.

JokubaitisJokubaitis

# 31 Rokas Jokubaitis (30 min., 9 points, 6 reps, 5 res., 2 p., 14 points). Rating – 10.

R. Jokubaitis deserves ten just for the energy he showed when he got off the bench in the first half. It was his actions and those of L. Lekavičius in the square that gave life to the attack by “Žalgiris”. The player not only perfectly attacked opponents Pikenrolais and shared passes to the top of the team, but also left Torrian Walden behind in a 1v1 situation and scored easy points. The player simply radiates confidence in his strength and takes the lead even in the most important moments, it is as if confirmed by the three points in the fourth quarter. On defense, R. Jokubaitis momentarily supervised rival leader J. Loyd and did so without major errors. Watching a nineteen-year-old Lithuanian play this way is a real treat.

# 32 Steve Vasturia (13 min, 5 pts, 2 rebounds, 1 res., 1 pm, 4 pts). Rating – 4.

It’s hard to understand why this basketball player was entrusted with the care of J. Loyd at the start of the game. The American struggled to get out from behind the barriers and the defender, who had accumulated 2 fouls, was replaced rather quickly. There is some optimism by the fact that S.Vasturia took advantage of his opportunities in the attack. The defender, who scored all 5 points during the short stretch, showed that he can really throw at least his own shots.

# 40 Marius Grigonis (22 min., 8 sts, 1 rep., 3 res., 1 p., 11 points). Rating – 7.

Sasha Obradovich’s students were well prepared to stop M. Grigonis and he had very little freedom with the ball. It is gratifying that the leader of “Žalgiris” has not abused individual actions and has been characterized by good decision making. The defender had 3 assists, and at the end of the game he played hard and, after provoking the opponents’ fouls, collected points from the penalty line. This match showed that M. Grigonis doesn’t need to score a lot of points to be useful, and the team may have other options that work well in attack.

Lauvergne'asLauvergne’as

# 77 Joffrey Lauvergne (21 min, 12 pts, 8 rebounds, 3 pm, 14 pp.). Rating – 9.

The Frenchman, with the tattoo of the Partizan logo in Belgrade, exploded with energy in this match against another team from the same city and, most importantly, was able to direct that energy in the right direction. J.Lauvergne dominated under both baskets and successfully collected the balls both in attack and defense. His horse is still playing the game “2 on 2”, but we saw it when the tall player played perfectly, taking the ball and with his back to the basket. Before the season, it was feared that the newcomer to the team could attack himself. PikenrolaisBut at least for the moment, J. Lauvergne is really solid in his defense. He has become one of the most stable players on the team and shows that he can still play at the highest level.
