A desperate farmer, Edwin shows off wolf victims: lamb carcasses torn apart Monday night.
And the rest, as Edwin says, scared some with wolf tooth marks. The man says this is the fourth wolf attack on his properties this year.

“We were on duty last night and we heard the dogs barking. When we came with the tractor from one field to another, maybe we were afraid of those times, or something, because in the morning when we got to the pasture, we found several dead sheep. When I went to another meadow where the lambs graze, I found only … It was easier to count alive than dead. We only found ten alive, “says farmer Edvinas Jurgelėnas.
The farmer’s patience is wearing thin as the fight against the wolves seems hopeless. After all, a day after last night’s bloodshed, the wolves returned to the same place again.
“The worker saw his eyes and certainly not a fox or a deer. Illuminated with a searchlight, he was not very afraid. Then he went back to the tractor and drove away, possibly the wolf. We watch, watch and stay at night. We fire firecrackers, we burn bonfires, there are also tractors and machines with running sticks. To scare us a little, but that no longer helps ”, says E. Jurgelėnas.
It’s not just this farm that’s in trouble. Another sheep farmer, Mindaugas, says he has had as many as eight sheep attacks this year. About forty animals were lost. The losses are enormous and nobody compensates for them. The state reportedly spends 5,000 euros on protection, for example for fences, but these do not protect against wolves.
“After such attacks, believe them as much as you want, we are border guards, then they jump that fence from fifty in the subway. Imagine, the wolf is much bigger. And its completely different structure, ”says farmer Mindaugas Bazys.
The man says that only changes to the law would protect farmers from such attacks.
“I think it is necessary to change the law of protection of wolves. So that everything begins at least from the first day of October. And at any time of the season you could shoot, not shoot, to be careful with those who get into enclosures. To allow hunters to be on duty with thermal imaging cameras. With rifles, “said M. Bazys.
According to the Minister of the Environment, if the wolves represent a danger and slaughter animals en masse, it is necessary to request it from the municipality, and permission to hunt them out of season would be granted.
“If those cases are repeated since August, if those cases are so numerous. It seems that there are more than one and two wolves in the area. It would be impossible to slaughter such a large number of sheep alone. I think that, according to the experts, the decisions must taken and, in some cases, farmers have to apply earlier and we can make those decisions earlier to minimize the damage, ”says Environment Minister Kęstutis Mažeika.
The chairman of the hunting group of the Mol catai district just laughs: permission was asked from the municipality, but only two wolves were hunted.
“When a hunter has his hands tied and cannot send a hunter to those areas where there are sheep, if the fines are huge.” I can’t imagine it, because our government, or the Environment Ministry, may no longer be interested in this, “said Jonas Kraujelis, president of” Related Hunters. “
The wolf hunt begins on October 15. This year one hundred and seventy-five wolves will be allowed to hunt.
