“The single-member members in the regions mostly negotiate the possible support themselves,” Gabrielius Landsbergis, president of the National Christian Democratic Union of Lithuania, told reporters in the Seimas on Tuesday.
According to him, the party has no intention of imposing instructions on them.
“People have natural connections, we are in coalitions, people have worked together for many years, and if they agree to support each other, the party leadership should not prevent it,” the politician said.
“I really see an opportunity to agree with a wide range of parties,” he added.
54 candidates from the Lithuanian National Christian Democratic Union entered the second round of the Seimas elections. In Vilnius they compete mainly with the representatives of the liberals, in Kaunas and in the regions, with the “peasants”.
Ramūnas Karbauskis, leader of the ruling “peasants”, said his party would support the Social Democratic candidates in the second round. The opposition Social Democrats decided to accept their support and to support the representatives of the “peasants” in single-member districts.
The second round of the parliamentary elections will take place on October 25.
