Outrage caused
“Why? Difficult? Too bad! Help Lithuanians create! What won’t you do with laser removal of tattoos created by science and Lithuanians? […] I am happy to contribute to the production of Lithuanian lasers. We will see how the laser breaks down different pigments, ”says tattoo artist Donato Mohamat Ali, who is proud of the photo of a pig that has been the subject of gossip.
According to him, the responsible specialists ensured that the tattooed animal seen in the photo did not feel any pain during the tattoo or the healing of the tattoo. This content soon began to be shared in various social media groups, where there is no shortage of outraged comments online.
“I had to see their works, they need a laser in each one of them. He could try that laser on himself, because from what I understand, he made the tattoos himself and did it according to the drawing ”, Daniel did not hide his surprises after commenting on the publication.
“Shit, shit, you want to serve science, do it yourself and test how and what works. The great scientists experimented on themselves and did not try such things on themselves … And here I have a Pavlov experiment like this …” Julius did not hide his indignation.
“And as far as possible to be called ‘master’, and value yourself even more doing those things and be even more proud of them. Words are missing, to put it mildly …” – Gina led the arrows of criticism .
“And if you made sure that the animal didn’t feel any pain during or during the healing process, then what did you not test on the human? It does not hurt! It’s hard to see, “Internet users said.
The animal will not experience residual phenomena because the animals will be euthanized after the experiment.
In the name of science
On Tuesday, when journalists from the portal contacted the author of the original record, Mr. Mohamat Ali, and asked him to explain what happened, he explained, agreed to contribute to the project in Vilnius, at the Center for Innovative Medicine, and tattooed a laboratory pig three days ago.
“After explaining to the veterinarians and scientists that the animal will not suffer any harm, that they will put it to sleep, I agreed to contribute to the ongoing project. I saw it myself when they were given painkillers. He introduced me to everything they did to the animal, He showed it. I accepted only on the condition that the animal did not hurt at all, “said the tattoo artist.
According to him, on the day the lab pig was tattooed, a tip of a needle about one millimeter was inserted under its skin, the dye was injected, and its pigment was thus distributed. Now the tattoo is expected to heal.
And in about a month, it is planned to carry out your removal procedure, based on the knowledge of the interlocutor, testing a wide range of lasers designed to remove not only tattoos, but also various pigment spots, moles, slag and the like.
“Mane apšmeižė”
“He had extensively described what project he was involved in and the fact that he was involved in Lithuanian welfare in medicine. However, my post, which I shared on Facebook, was deleted and shared with other groups on this social network, adding that I brought the pig directly to my tattoo studio, I tattooed it arbitrarily, it slandered me, “said Mohamat Ali, adding that the lab pig era is tattooed for free at the Center for Innovative Medicine and not his own tattoo studio.
The man said he would turn to the police for defamation, suspecting that it was done by competitors, other tattoo artists, in an attempt to repel clients by appealing to Mohamat Ali’s torture of animals.
Permission issued for experiment
“Here’s a scientific project carried out at the Center for Innovative Medicine, and if you (a tattoo artist) were invited for a consultation, what happens here? Oh, that’s legal, that’s for sure. Every scientific project requires permission of the Ethics Commission for the Use of Experimental Animals and the State Food and Veterinary Service. This experiment has it all, “Dr. Dr., President of the Ethics Commission on the Use of Experimental Animals, told reporters. Irena Jonauskiene.
According to her, the project is being carried out by Romualdas Rudys, temporary director of the Department of Biomodels at the Institute of Innovative Medicine. It was he who filled out the detailed application, answering many questions about the nature of the experiment and whether the animal involved would suffer.
According to I. Jonauskienė, after answering the aforementioned questions, if the answers meet the requirements issued by the State Food and Veterinary Service and the European Directive on Animal Protection of 2010, the Ethics Commission approves and the State Food Service and Veterinarians issues a permit.
If there is any suffering, pain relievers are used. All operations are performed under analgesia or while the animal is asleep.
People are not protected that way
“If there is any suffering, painkillers are used. All operations are performed under analgesia or while the animal sleeps ”, assured the president of the Ethics Commission in the Use of Experimental Animals.
When the interlocutor heard that the incident caused considerable outrage, the interlocutor rhetorically asked, “Oh, no one is offended by tattoos on humans?” And asked why the experiment was conducted on animals and not humans, adding:
“When it comes to us and it is our turn, we will act on the people. Animal experiments are so demanding that humans are not as safe as they are. But if a message appears somewhere in the newspaper, everyone who does not understand the The matter attacks in such a way that it no longer knows what to do, ”explained I. Jonauskienė, emphasizing that the benefits of this experiment are tremendously great.
The objective
The journalists of the portal put written questions to R. Rudi, the temporary head of the Biomodels Division, requesting more information about his project.
According to him, the aim of the study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of high-intensity laser radiation in the removal of skin pigment derivatives, since high-intensity picosecond laser systems appeared on the market just five years ago. its safety has not been investigated. Also, in recent years, there have been reports of an increase in the likelihood of side effects after laser procedures.
According to R. Rudis, the new regulation on medical devices adopted by the European Parliament in 2017, which will replace the Directive on medical devices, still in force, classifies all high-intensity electromagnetic radiation equipment intended for use on the human body as medical devices. These devices must meet the general requirements for medical devices, that is, their clinical efficacy and safety must be demonstrated.
“Clinical evaluations of these products will be based on relevant safety-related data, including data from a specific preclinical study. These requirements have not been mandatory for non-clinical laser systems to date. A minipig pig was used in the study. from Göttingen bred in Denmark and bred specifically for research. This is the first study of its kind in Lithuania, using pigs intended for scientific research, “explained the temporary head of the Biomodels Department.
When asked why an animal was chosen for the study instead of a human, R. Rudys stated that the most optimal research option was chosen for the planned research. Such a comprehensive and detailed study with volunteers is not possible and the pig was chosen due to the suitability of its skin for human skin.
“As a promoter of the project, I am committed to ensuring that all procedures with an experimental animal are carried out in accordance with the legislation and established permits, and to ensuring that the experimental animal does not experience any pain or suffering during or after the study. The animal will not experience any residual phenomenon, because later it will be sacrificed ”, the interlocutor did not hide.
