The governors do not raise their arms to form a new coalition: they counted all the votes in the second round of the elections

R.Karbauskis explained that the LVŽS will support all the candidates of the center left in those unique members where the party representatives did not enter the second round.

“Now the most important thing is to focus the support of the peasants on the candidates of the center-left parties, the support of the other center-left parties, their candidates and the rest of us. One thing is clear, we are now quietly counting all those numbers in the elections after a difficult night. Clearly, 9 percent of voters attended the election, probably for the first time. They voted for the Freedom Party and in this situation, it is clear that of the voters who participated in 2016, it can be assumed that about 38 percent were present. This really explains the difference there is now after the first round. But in any case, he says that our main competitor in the elections probably reached his ceiling, “the LVŽS president told reporters in the Seimas on Tuesday.

According to R. Karbauskis, the results of the elections will be determined by the decision of the voters. If you are in favor of the center-left parties, the electoral result is far from clear.

He said that in the second round of the elections, 33 candidates from LVŽS, 12 Social Democrats, 2 Labor parties – 4, social workers – 4, Electoral Action of Lithuania-Union of Christian Families (LLRA-KŠS) – 1 in the single-member constituency. According to R. Karbauskis, there are also three independent candidates in the second rounds.

“It just came to our knowledge then. But the elections will end only in the second round and then it will be clear on which side: the left or the right of the center has more,” said the president of the LVŽS.

R. Karbauskis calculated that 24 representatives of the “peasants” should be elected to the Seimas in the second round so that the party could aspire to form a governing coalition.

“Of the candidates running now, only 9 could lose because of it. But it is really possible to lose a lot so that we can still form the ruling majority, ”he emphasized.

Talking about how the candidates of potential coalition partners should appear in the elections, R. Karbauskis explained that the Social Democrats have candidates in the so-called single-member rural constituencies, where there are many chances of being elected to the Seimas.

In his opinion, the LSDP can win 8 parliamentary seats. The Labor Party – one, maybe even two, social workers – three, LLRA-KŠS – one.

“It is practically realistic for us that the scenario is about what could happen in the second round. But again, it all depends on how many people go to the polls. If we had to talk about the first round, then the number of voters who came is more or less satisfactory so that we have that optimistic option. But if it decreases, and it can decrease, then in that case it is clear that the conservatives will win everything, ”emphasized R. Karbauskis.

S. Skvernel: Everything can be

“The passions are still boiling, they are not restless, there is another round waiting,” S. Skvernelis told reporters on Tuesday about how he evaluates the election results after the passions have subsided.

Despite the fact that after the first round of the Seimas elections, the LVŽS came in second after the Conservatives in terms of the number of seats won in the multi-member electoral district, S.Svvernelis believes that a new one is still possible. coalition of center-left political forces.

“The second round can substantially adjust the results and everything can be,” he explained.

He considered that the results of the LVS in the elections were not bad enough, considering that the party was in power for four years and worked under difficult enough conditions. He expects the result to strengthen in the second round of the October 25 elections.

S. Skvernelis claimed that there were talks with the Labor Party and the Social Democrats.

“Both I and the president are talking,” said the prime minister, referring to the president of LVŽS R. Karbauskis.

For the left coalition to form, according to S. Skvernelis, the people must participate in the elections.

Can irritate people

Gabrielius Landsbergis, president of the Lithuanian National Christian Democrats Union (TS-LKD), which received the most votes in the multi-member constituency, said that any coordination of potential coalitions before the second round of the Seimas elections it is premature and may even upset voters.

“In that sense, people are now choosing what will be the axis, what will be the direction. I see a possibility of speaking in general, of course, a fact, of course, but it seems to me that now it is a bit too early for those languages, ”he told reporters at Seimas.

When asked whether the values of the Freedom Party, which could be considered a possible partner of the TS-LKD coalition, fully correspond to the values of the Conservatives, G. Landsbergis explained that if they did, these political forces would likely be a single match.

“I see that the basic things overlap. If we talk about respect for human rights, freedom of expression, the western leadership of Lithuania, if we talk about the foundation, it is clear. And it coincides with the Socdems. And the fact that these are different parties with different programs, different priorities in the state is a beautiful democracy, so that people can choose what their priority is and vote for the party whose priorities coincide with theirs, ”said the conservative leader .

Does TS-LKD envisage working together in a new coalition with “workers”, “peasants”? G. Landsbergis reiterated that it is necessary to wait for the second round, when the real image of the future Seimas will be seen.

“It just came to our attention then. I would like to emphasize once again, in my opinion, that the new government must look not only at the voters who voted for it,” he said.

Preparing to fight the conservatives

Aušrinė Armonaitė, the president of the Freedom Party, also explained that there are no negotiations on the future coalition.

“We are not involved in any negotiations. We are preparing for twelve battles – in the single-member candidates of the Freedom Party candidates in the single-member battles against the National Union candidates. This means that we will have to find out who is stronger in those single-member constituencies and what weight it will have in the Seimas. Then it will be possible to talk about collaborations and things like that. It is still too early to talk now, “he said.

A.Armonaitė also said that the values of the Freedom Party do not coincide at all with the TS-LKD.

“Apparently, there are points in common with all, but so are very different organizations. The Freedom Party is an elected parliament organization with very bold liberal ideas. Here and during this period, our opinions very often differed from those of the politicians of the Unión Patria. Sometimes, we can also have different views on the economic agenda. This is a separate word here, “said the leader of the Freedom Party.

It is not entirely clear that A. Armonaitė would see the joint work with the conservatives.

You have to wait for the second round

Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, president of the Liberal Movement, also stressed that it is too early to talk about coalitions.

“We are expecting a very tense second round. We, the Liberal Movement, have up to nine individual members and our aim now is to perform well in individual members. (…) The situation is exactly the same with, apparently, the conservatives. “I think we should wait for the second round now, there is not much to wait, and then we will talk about coalitions,” he emphasized.

Speaking of possible joint work with the “peasants”, V.Čmilytė-Nielsen reiterated that the liberals have few points of contact with this party.

“I can say the same about the Labor Party. Also, opinions change every day, whether they are center-left or center-right; in fact, I am no longer aware of which political line they are following. It is difficult to imagine points of contact with these two forces. (…) The Social Democrats said yesterday that they support the ‘peasant’ candidates. This, again, is their somewhat vague position. And we, as I mentioned, are focused on our second round, “he said. the leader of the Liberal Movement.

Outperformed by “peasants”

Opposition Conservatives received the most votes in the multi-member constituency during the Seimas election on Sunday, winning 23 parliamentary seats.

Ingrida Šimonytė, leader of the National Christian Democratic Union of Lithuania, won the first round in the single-member constituency of Antakalnis in the Seimas elections.

The ruling “peasants” won the seats of 16 Seimas members during the first round of the Seimas elections. Labor Party: 9 seats.

According to preliminary data from the Central Election Commission, 9.26 percent voted for the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party in a multi-member constituency. Voters who participated in the Seimas elections.

According to these results, the Social Democrats should have 8 representatives in the new parliament. As well as the electoral rookie Freedom Party.

The Liberal Movement also crossed the Seimas barrier. According to the results of the elections in the multinominal constituency, the party will have 6 seats in the new legislature.

The second round of the Seimas elections in single-member districts will take place on October 25.
