“A large force of police officers is looking for three people from various units and explaining other circumstances of the incident,” Kristina Janulevičienė, a spokeswoman for the Alytus County Police, told BNS on Monday.
According to preliminary data, on Monday three people broke into the family home of the Lazdije people on Kauno Street and tied up a 36-year-old woman and a 13-year-old daughter, threatening them with an object similar to a gun.
“When the owner of the house returned, they also tied him up and possibly filled him with flammable liquid and set him on fire,” said a police spokeswoman.
The victim herself is alleged to have had dealings with the police.
“The money was threatened and demanded,” he added.
According to K. Janulevičienė, in the event of a fire in the house, people withdrew.
A police spokeswoman also said she could not yet say what the burned man’s condition was – he was being treated at the hospital and the woman and teenager were not physically injured, according to preliminary data.
According to K. Janulevičienė, the police know the burned man, but did not reveal the reason.
“The police know the victim, but I will not specify,” said K. Janulevičienė, a spokesman for the Alytus County Police.
Authorities have launched a pre-trial investigation for extortion, threatening up to eight years in prison.
