“Regardless of who will form the new government, in the next 3-5 years, Lithuania’s priorities in economic policy should be six. The first step is to increase economic innovation, productivity and the creation of high value-added jobs. It is also important to increase the country’s investment attractiveness (…) and actively shorten the production chains. It is necessary to participate very actively in the transformation of the EU-Asia chains into EU-EU chains, “B. Gruževskis told Eltai .
The professor emphasizes that ensuring Lithuania’s energy independence remains a very important goal.
“Another important direction is energy policy: it is necessary to reduce Lithuania’s independence from imported energy resources, increase the scale of renewable energy production and reduce energy intensity. “In this area – ELTA) everything must be done much more efficiently, with more consideration for our European Recovery Funds and the implementation of the DNA plan,” he said.
According to B. Gruževskis, it is important to increase the orientation of the economy in the social sphere in Lithuania, which would possibly be a challenge for the conservatives who led the first stage of the Seimas elections.
“It is also important that the economy is more socially oriented, which would be a challenge for the conservatives and the right-wing government if they really do it. Finally, financial and fiscal policies should also be prioritized, increasing budget collection, transparent economic activity and reducing economic inequality. In this area, I would say, the government should make a lot of effort, because inequality can be seen as a factor that slows the economy, “said B. Gruževskis.
Assessing the strengths of the Conservatives as a ruling force, the professor said they could effectively strengthen the market economy and encourage foreign investment, as well as shape the Lithuanian energy sector more quickly.
“In economic policy, the conservatives could make effective use of their creed: the demand for a transparent policy. (…) Respectively strengthen the methods of market economy, the attractiveness of investment of the country and seek liberal economic solutions of market to increase the value of Lithuania, the attractiveness for direct and indirect foreign investment. Of course, the energy sector, where both conservatives and liberals have strong specialists, and I think they should just be themselves in these areas, “he said to Eltai.
However, when assessing the weaknesses of the Conservatives, B. Gruževskis mentioned that the party should improve the financial redistribution provisions and take more into account the social sensitivity of the decisions made.
“However, they (the conservatives – ELTA) should significantly improve their redistribution provisions (financial – ELTA), public relations (…). They must necessarily increase the social sensitivity of the decisions they make. Much more work needs to be done on social cushions, protecting relevant population groups in one way or another, in order to use the budget in a sustainable way. . And I think today is a challenge, “said B. Gruževskis.
“It is hoped that the leader (of the ruling party – ELTA) is sufficiently focused and is able to combine political attitudes with the real needs of society so that the government’s decisions are durable,” he added.
