ELTA recalls that the president of the LSDP, Gintautas Paluckas, said in an interview with Elta that the accusations made by the rulers before the elections ended that the LSDP had already agreed with the conservatives the formation of the new ruling coalition offended a number important of Social Democrats. R. Karbauskis, leader of the LSDP and president of the “peasants”, assured the Social Democrats that he should apologize for such speeches.
The leader of the “Peasants” R. Karbauskis offered G. Paluck a condition of apology.
“In the second round, if they support all our candidates who fight in the electoral districts against the conservatives, I will. As far as I know, they will not. (…) I think it is a logical condition. As president of LVŽS “I have said for a long time that in the second rounds, where the LSDP will fight, the Liberals and Conservatives will support the LSDP. We will do this for all parties that could be in the center-left coalition,” he said.
This time R. Karbauskis did not speculate whether he expected to win this election, only hinted that party member Rima Baškienė should win in a single-name round in the first round.
“We would very much like to form a ruling majority in the next term. We will see if there will be enough votes after the second round. After the first round, nothing will be clear yet,” Karbauskis said.
There could be several parties in the center-left coalition, he said.
“It just came to our attention then. It’s hard to name. I think the Labor Party could claim Freedom and Justice, the Polish election campaign,” he said.
The leader of the “peasants” also said that he could not name with which party the LVŽS would not actually join the coalition. On the other hand, R. Karbauskis did not hide that it would be difficult to be in a coalition with TS-LKD.
“I could not name him, I know the words of Saulius Skvernelis, because he does not believe that we should work in a coalition with the Conservatives, who would be led by Šimonytė together with Landsbergis. It would be difficult to wait to go with them. If TS-LKD dominates after the ranking, it may be different, ”he said.
When asked how he evaluates voter turnout, R. Karbauskis said it was high.
“Good mood. We were scared of these elections: they take place during the coronavirus crisis and we have never had an election like this, but I see 47%. Activity and it will move a little more. I think it is a good activity. I hope people have chosen the right power and we will see how it will be in a few hours, “he said.
