The traders themselves admit that here it is “a little more expensive” than, say, the markets in the rest areas of the capital. This has happened historically: stars, rich people and those who need exclusive products shop at the Tymo market.

Vida, which sells Lithuanian meat products, says Dzūkija products are popular in the capital. The most popular product is salted bacon. Kilogram 8 euros. The fat is kept in salt for two weeks and is left to age in the refrigerator for a further five days after extraction. This is a traditional Dzuk technology.

Salty bacon with muscle 9 euros per kilo. Sausages 12 euros per kilo. Smoked with alder wood and seasoned with udder.

Jūratė is famous for baking bread with prayer.

“It just came to our knowledge then. We are like ancestors. We mix the dough with candles, we add holy water. My grandfather was a sacristy and he would not allow me to touch the food without praying. Every bread is blessed. Every morning I pray for the people who eat. our bread, ”says Jūratė.

She bakes bread with her husband and says that she just doesn’t want to go into industrial production. One kilogram costs 4 euros. The bread is whole grain, with the addition of additional ingredients like amaranth and agile seeds.

One of the most interesting is the Rasa table, where the berries grown on his farm are sold. So far, here it is possible to buy strawberries cut in the field (6 euros a box). Raspberries – 5 euros a box. Depending on the seller, both price and weight can be negotiated.

“The harvest is excellent because there was no frost in the fall and we can harvest the berries for quite a long time. We also surprised buyers with Lithuanian strawberries, which are only suitable in the field, not in the greenhouse. This is an early variety that we will be the first to collect in the spring. Prices are a little higher this year than in previous years, ”explains Rasa, who says he fears quarantine.

The harvest is good, the warehouses are full of apples, pears, and if we had to stop trading, it would only be left to emigrate, because the merchandise is sold all year round. More in the report:
