The next hearing is scheduled for Monday, with representatives of the media addressing the President of the Court and the President of the Council of Judges on Friday, requesting the opportunity to follow the hearing directly or remotely.
Court representative Lina Nemeikaitė told BNS that the famous testimony given by E. Masiulis during the pre-trial investigation had been completed at the hearing and additional explanations had been heard from the accused.
E. Masiulis’ lawyer, Aušra Saulėnienė, confirmed to BNS that his accused had presented evidence in court, but stated that he could not comment further on it without his knowledge.
According to L. Nemeikaitė, after the quarantine conditions have relaxed, the oral hearing of the cases in court gradually resumes, but only those whose participation is necessary are invited to the hearings. The goal is also for people whose participation is not necessary to join the case remotely.
‘When it is not possible to guarantee that the parties are present at the hearing at a distance, the hearings will be scheduled in advance, with the participation of those who must attend (…) the hearings in the oral proceedings will be organized in such a way that : they would only be attended by people summoned by the court, ensuring a distance of at least 2 meters between people and that all the people present at the hearing would wear facial protection, ”he said.
According to the court representative, former Seimas Liberal member Šarūnas Gustainis, who is also accused of accepting a bribe, participated in the case remotely in Thursday’s session.
In the case of political corruption, E. Masiulis, Š. Gustainis and former “employee” Vytautas Gapšys. Member of Parliament Gintaras Steponavičius is accused of abuse in the absence of signs of bribery.
Raimondas Kurlianskis, the former vice president of the company MG Baltic, is accused of bribing politicians for making decisions that are beneficial to the company.
Accusations in the case were also made against the concerns of MG Baltic, the Labor Party and the Liberal Movement. The defendants do not admit their guilt, they say that the police investigation was carried out partially.
The next hearing in the case is scheduled for May 18.
