According to Vytis, there were also good rock bands in the USSR itself.
Araks, Stas Namino’s group, cuts here as needed. Good tough hands. “Všemina Vremeni”, “Akvarium”, “Nautilus Pompilus” – I was in many concerts. There was a lot of good music, ”Vytis said.
Sometimes there were also artists behind the Iron Curtain. Vytis says he remembers attending a concert by American disco artist Amii Stewart, who performed the song “Knock on Wood.”
However, for example, rock artists who were able to spread rebellious ideas did not come behind the Iron Curtain to perform. Jazz and Dixieland artists and groups that played instrumental music came to Lithuania more frequently.
“It just came to our knowledge then. They would start singing, the question would arise as to what are they singing there,” Vytis said.
According to Vytis, even rock concerts during the Soviet era were to be viewed calmly and restrained for a long time. “If he got up, the militiaman would run and strictly order him to sit down,” Vytis recalled.
A particularly jammed concert for Vytis was in 1987. The union rock festival “Lituanika” took place in 2006, where such groups as SBS, “Year of the Tiger”, “Cathedral” and others performed.
