This year, it is planned to distribute up to 3,000 of them, and in the next five years, after receiving sufficient funds from state institutions or private companies, it is planned to donate farmers to newborns throughout Lithuania.
This time, on October 1. Diana Nausėdienė, sponsor of the project, participated in the traditional morning readings organized at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library in Lithuania. After reading Indr/7 Zalieckienpenter’s book “Kapt kapt kapt” created for the project, she presented the small participants with fields of reading promotion. Project sponsor D. Nausėdienė says: “It is extremely important that children read. The knowledge, wrapped in the love and warmth of the parents, is a wonderful expression of your attention to the future of your little ones. As we read to our children, we accompany them to a wonderful land of imagination. Then, reading together, we have a great opportunity to talk, discuss with our children on a wide range of topics and help them discover the most important values in life. “
Director General of the National Library implementing the project prof. Dr. Renaldas Gudauskas emphasizes its long-term impact: “In the“ Book Start ”project we seek to promote early reading in the family and develop an understanding of its meaning for the child’s future. Therefore, by donating farmers, we want to provide parents with the necessary tools and knowledge so that we can contribute to the education of the young reading generation ”.
The early reading promotion field consists of a special backpack “Book Start”, I. Zalieckienė’s book “Kapt kapt kapt”, which corresponds to the possibilities and needs of children from 0 to 3 years old, postcards with advice read with children created by the specialists of the National Library and colorful tabs. Lauknešėliai, in cooperation with family doctors, will first be donated in the district municipalities of Elektrėnai, Šalčininkai, Širvintos, Švenčionys, Trakai, Ukmergė and Vilnius of Vilnius County. Since many members of national minorities live there, parents will be provided with information on early reading not only in Lithuanian, but also in Polish and Russian.
Reading is very important for babies from the first days: reading develops language skills, memory, imagination and, as the child grows, it is easier to learn to read independently and achieve better results in reading. school. Similar projects abroad have produced particularly good results, for example, in the UK, £ 1 invested in Bookstart generates £ 4.19 for the public.
The Book Start project is part of the Reading Promotion Program and is implemented by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania and the National Library. Project partners: Ministry of Education, Science and Sports, Lithuanian branch of the International Association for Children’s and Young People’s Literature (IBBY).
