According to the portal, Merkel underlined the solidarity of the German government with Navaln with a “so unusual gesture.” She visited the opposition in “complete secrecy” while she was still in the hospital bed, writes SPIEGEL.

According to the publication, Merkel’s visit is further proof that the Chancellor does not intend to abandon the investigation into the A. Navaln case and will try to find out all the circumstances of the incident related to him.

A 44-year-old Kremlin critic and anti-corruption activist was poisoned last month. Navaln lost consciousness on a plane flying from Tomsk to Moscow and was transferred to Berlin a few days later at the Omsk Hospital.

He spent 32 days in a Berlin hospital, 24 of which were in the intensive care unit.

According to German experts, toxicological studies “unequivocally prove” that A. Navaln was poisoned with the nerve-paralyzing substance “Novičiok”.
