“Vacha Agayev, our deputy, has died … Lately he has been receiving treatment for a coronavirus,” Afonin, vice chairman of the party’s Central Committee, told the Interfax news agency on Wednesday.

Agayev, first elected in 2011, is the first member of Russia’s lower house of parliament to die of a coronavirus. The deputy was 67 years old.

Duma President Vyacheslav Volodin said early Wednesday that three Duma deputies diagnosed with COVID-19 had been hospitalized the day before.

On Tuesday, Volodin announced that more than 50 officers are being treated for a coronavirus infection or have antibodies to the virus in their bodies.
