Lukashenko’s “inauguration” is accompanied by protests: water cannons are used to suffocate

A correspondent for the Interfax news agency reported that officers of the force began expelling protesters from the WWII museum, some of them arrested for a water cannon used to chase people.

At least two people are reported to have been affected, one of them an elderly woman. The protesters took her to the road and called an ambulance.

Another woman with an injured head was also seen at the protest site.

Protesters block the streets in the center of the Belarusian capital. They hit the road and stop traffic. Drivers support them by pressing beeps and clapping their hands.

Earlier, the Minsk militia confirmed that water cannons had been used.

In various parts of central Minsk, militias continue to detain people. Natalia Hanusevich, a spokeswoman for the capital’s militia, said more than 10 protesters had been arrested.

A spokeswoman for the militia said she had no information about the victims yet.

At that time, witnesses report that about 50 people have been detained.

According to witnesses, the officers of the force structures carry out harsh arrests, use sticks.

In central Minsk, between 5 and 7 thousand people gathered to protest against Lukashenko’s inauguration on Wednesday, which had not been announced in advance.

For more than a month there have been unprecedented protests in Belarus over the August 9 presidential elections, which Lukashenko has ruled the country since 1994. The opposition and Western countries consider these elections to be rigged.
