The Žalgiris team with the Antanas Sireika students, who collected the cup and the champions’ rings from the previous season before the match, had only half a half.
Led by solid legionnaire Ryan Anderson, the Šiauliai people took the lead in the first quarter for a while, and “Žalgiris” rewarded the result only after a few 3-pointers from Artūras Milaknis – 23:21.
After playing four minutes in the second half, Šiauliai was just 25:28 behind, but then Žalgiris accelerated and escaped into the long break with a difference of two digits: 45:32.
Finally, all the questions were answered in the third quarter, in which the defense of the Lithuanian champions simply suppressed the attack of “Šiauliai”.
A. Seika’s men scored just 7 points in 10 minutes, and Kaunas, who dominated the penalty area with Joffrey Lauvergne and Augustine Rubit, began to crush their opponents – 69:38.
At the beginning of the fourth quarter, “Šiauliai” still shone 12: 4, but it did not affect the result of the match: Žalgiris further increased his lead, reaching 36 points at a time, and earned a convincing victory.
All 12 registered players scored points in the ranks of Kaunas, and J. Lauvergne looked the strongest, who even scored 12 points from 16 points with six places in the basket.
The “Žalgiris” long-range artillery also looked solid: Kaunas residents hit 13 long-range shots out of 33 (39.4%). A. Milaknis and Marius Grigonis flew four triples each.

According to M.Schiller’s decision, Marekas Blaževičius and Karolis Lukošiūnas were left out of the twelve at the start of LKL.
Jonas Paukštė, the best possible Lithuanian ever, made his debut in Šiauliai and spent three minutes on the parquet. However, the 224 cm tall tower did not stand out.
The only player who has not come off the Šiauliai bench is Sethas LeDay, brother of Zach LeDay, who played for Žalgiris last season.
