While driving through the park, the mayor of the Prienai district, Alvydas Vaicekauskas, made no secret of his joy that this city spot has finally been fixed up and has become very popular with residents.

The park was named Beržynas in the Stadium district, part of the former Soviet military unit, recently in June this year. The public space by the pond has long been called by various names: Beržynas, Stadionas, Kareiviniai, etc. When invited to give the park an official name, residents also suggested Future, Youth, Happiness and other names, but the majority voted for Beržynas.

Participated in the lottery

The café is also open here during the first season, starting from the first days of June. “This is something new in Prienai. But I have been working in this field for nine years, so this is not news to me. I decided to participate in this lottery in the literal sense of the word, because it really is a lottery: it has not been analyzed the market, the need for my offer has not been analyzed.

It is one thing to work in the city of Birštonas, where the flow comes from all over Lithuania and some days it leaves nothing. And here we have to work in such a way that each client returns again and again, ”said Gediminas.

Prienai is definitely not a tourist attraction, especially when compared to nearby Birštonas. But when asked about the first season, Gediminas smiled widely: “Without wrapping words in cotton, he did great. Everything is fine.”

Without wrapping words in cotton, it turned out fine. Everything is fine.

He assured that the most important thing is to work so that the client returns. That is its purpose. “I try to do that, provide quality materials and I demand from the staff. I have to give clients what I would like to receive myself. The coffee is better, they are not commercial beans, they are very expensive, bar units, even restaurants, work with that type of coffee.

To be precise, after all, the most important thing is making coffee. I’ll give an example: when training a waiter, we pour about 40 liters of milk on the floor. Others use special powders in teaching, they imitate milk, but we work in such a way that we take the money when we present the product as it should be ”, assured Gediminas.

His son and another girl, both, according to Gediminas, professionals in their work, worked in this cafe all summer. The son who studies in Kaunas has already returned to science.

It is not planned to close the cafe completely until spring, however, Gediminas is in no rush to promise that it will run every day from morning to night; it is believed to open when the weather is better.

Birštonas was worse

And what happened to Birštonas this year, that the season in Prienai was better? According to Gediminas, there is a lot of competition in Birštonas and it is difficult to expect even a very good guest to return.

“It is impossible to survive only from the residents of Birštonas or those who receive treatment in sanatoriums. As this year has shown, there were no miracles in Birštonas: the Lithuanian population spread throughout Lithuania in search of more tourism. The tower was discovered by everyone last year, there was something like that, the whole town of Birštonas was the second J.Basanavičius street in Palanga.

And this year, the Lithuanian summer also gave a lot … This season did not benefit Birštonas much: at first, the fact that later, as in all of Lithuania, it allowed people to stay in sanatoriums, In any case, the total flow of tourists is only on weekends: it begins the second half of Friday. And if the summer is Lithuanian on the weekend, it may not open next time, ”said the businessman who has a mobile cafe in Birštonas.

The total flow of tourists in any case is only on weekends. And if the summer is Lithuanian on the weekend, it may not open next time.

He has doubts about next year in Birštonas, but in Prienai, not in the least. On the contrary, he is thinking here of a possible development: “I am also thinking of restoration.”

According to Gediminas, there are no tables next to the cafe, which were not empty in summer. And sometimes, at nine o’clock at night, the cafe still couldn’t close because customers didn’t even intend to part. And here I was during the rain and the sixth to finish the job.

Gediminas was happy to have customers heading to Beržynas Park for coffee. However, a minority of visitors from elsewhere, the cafe’s main customers are locals, for whom paying two or a little more for a larger cup of coffee is not a problem.
