A Russian national who arrived at the Medininkai roadside post from Belarus in a Scania truck told the authorities that he was heading to the Russian Krasnodar Krai region, where he was transporting postal items.
But customs officials decided to inspect the X-ray control system on this tractor. It later turned out that part of the bags marked with the logos of the postal items were full of cigarette contraband.
A total of 126 thousand were found in the bags. 500 packages of Belarusian cigarettes “NZ Gold”. Its value with mandatory taxes to pay is 442 thousand. 750 euros.
A pre-trial investigation for smuggling was launched at the Vilnius branch of the Criminal Customs Service and the driver of the tugboat was detained for two days. The investigation is led by the Vilnius Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
