Alexander Lukashenko said on Thursday that Belarus is building a border with the West and strengthening the protection of the state border with Ukraine.

We are forced to take troops out onto the streets. As I said, half the army will arm and build the state border with the West, first of all with Lithuania and Poland. We are forced to strengthen state borders, with great regret, with her brother Ukraine, Lukashenko said at the Women’s Forum.

He claims to send half the troops to strengthen the western border guards.

Mr. Lukashenko added that he will strengthen the protection of the state of the Union with the help of the Russian authorities.

In recent days, I have been forced to work with the Russian president and the defense minister to establish a common defense of the state of the Union, he said Thursday.

Rustamas Liubajev, head of the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service (SBGS), told BNS yesterday that traffic through the border crossings between Lithuania and Belarus is currently ongoing and that no information on possible changes has yet been received. or restrictions on Belarusian services.

Deny that the election was faked

Mr. Lukashenko also denied that the August 9 elections were faked.

I swear to you, there was no lie during the elections. It is not possible to falsify 80% of the elections [bals]Lukashenko claimed, adding that he did not need anyone to be recognized during the vote in his country.

Mr Lukashenko also asked Lithuania, Ukraine and Poland to suspend their mad politicians. There are very few technicians left in his arsenal and we are on the brink of a terrible disaster.

For more than a month there have been unprecedented protests in Belarus over the presidential elections on August 9, which were declared the winners by Lukashenko, who has led the country since 1994. The opposition and the West consider these elections to be rigged.

According to the official election results, Lukashenko supported 80.1% of the votes, while the opposition candidate Sviatlana Cichanouskaya received 10.12% of the votes.

Two days after the elections, S. Cichanouskaja, under pressure from the government, left Lithuania. On August 18, its members of the Coordination Council called for a peaceful transfer of power and a new election. Minsk considers the institutions to be unconstitutional.

According to Cichanouskaya, at least seven people died and dozens disappeared due to violence used by security forces in anti-government demonstrations.

The European Union has previously approved plans to impose sanctions on those responsible for the violence in Belarus. The US State Department has also announced that it is preparing to impose sanctions on Minsk and is consulting with the EU on this.
