After a half-year break, the official match of the Lithuanian Basketball League (Betsafe-LKL) took place again in Klaipeda.
At the beginning of the season, Klaipeda “Neptune” (1/0) at home 84:81 (23:17, 15:20, 20:20, 26:24) broke Alytus’s Dzūkija (0/1).
“Neptūnas”, who had the status of favorites, started the match more solidly, but the Dzūkians recovered thanks to the short and successful stages of Tadas Rinkūnas and Paolo Marinelli – 29:27. Tadas Pažėgė, who appeared on the field, brought extra energy to the Klaipėda residents’ game, and the hosts took advantage of a slim advantage at the long break: 38:37.
The third half was already better for the Alytus team, but the result with a siren was overwhelmed by the triple of Žygimantas Janavičius – 58:57. In the decisive quarter, the teams went hand in hand, and Simas Jasaitis’s long throw again weighed in the balance in favor of Alytus – 71:69. At the beginning of the last minute, “Neptune” was ahead – 76:73.
Martynas Zigmantavičius caused a foul by pushing towards the basket and hit the penalty line, but Martynas Mažeika hit a very long triple (79:75). True, later the veteran scored only one free throw, and M.Zigmantavičius responded with three points – 78:80.
The rotation of “Dzūkija” was then reduced: T. Rinkūnas and Matas Jucikas met after 5 fouls, and P.Marinelli and M.Zigmantavičius drew blood out of the lineup, so Thomas Dziagwa, who had been playing alone for 2 minutes, went out to the field. M.Mažeika took free throws, and S.Jasaitis managed to reduce the difference to the minimum by three points, leaving the Alytus club with 6 seconds of hope (81:82).

The Klaipėda club was pulled by veterans at a decisive moment, but during the match, the biggest surprise was T. Pažėgė. The former defender, who was a runner in the ranks of “Neptūnas”, this time scored 12 points (3/5 two points, 2/5 three points) and bounced 7 balls in 18 minutes.
In the fight for the balls, “Neptūnas” won until 44:26 and thus made up for the triples that did not fall (5/20, 25 percent accuracy).
