This was decided by the Ethics and Procedures Commission of the Seimas, which met on Wednesday. Despite such “acquittal”, Antanas Matulas, the chief of ethics, promises to ask the parliamentarian to express his thoughts more cautiously in the future and to avoid such statements.
“The Commissioners had the context in mind, because the context was that Mr Schim’s behavior was quite strange, but we have not considered this issue yet, because we have not received responses from all the institutions. I think the commission has made a very logical, because in this case the context is very important, but as president of the commission I will make a comment to A. Armonaitė to express his thoughts with more caution ”, A. Matulas commented on the commission’s decision to journalists.
Petras Čimbaras, a member of the Seimas Committee on Ethics and Procedures, was disappointed with the decision of the ethics guardians, because in his opinion, the “Pandora’s box” was opened, which could mean that they could dedicate themselves, for example , with its debuses.
However, Seimas member Andrius Mazuronis did not dramatize the policy dictionary, saying that political rhetoric can be colorful.
Seimas member A. Armonaitė said that she did not use swear words, but that she does not want anyone to say it, does not want to use those words and does not intend to do so in the future.
“When it comes to saluting the Nazi posters in our parliament, at its heart it provokes. I am surprised that he is debating me, not Mr Schim, who is still investigating. Of course, the commission’s decision was a bit surprising, I expected the worst, because I see that many members of the Seimas see no problem in this Nazi salute from a member of the Seimas. And the third thing, however, the substance of which I spoke becomes fertilizer, fertilizes the Lithuanian lands … ”, considered A. Armonaitė, who received a favorable decision from the ethical guardians.
By the way, the members of the Seimas Aušrinė Armonaitė and Kazys Starkevičius, who prepared draft conclusions on this conflict situation, suggested to the Seimas Ethics Commission to recognize that A. Armonaitė had violated the Code of Conduct for State Politicians , but this was not accepted. 4 members of the commission voted in favor of this conclusion, 2 against, 3 abstained.
Ms Šimas approached the ethics officer, who not only asked to investigate and evaluate the behavior of the parliamentarian, but also demanded her public apology. “I would like to deny the words that offend me. She publicly violated the Code of Conduct for State Politicians. Member of the Seimas A. Armonaitė humiliated my honor and dignity as a member of the Seimas and citizen,” wrote A. Šimas in his speech to the guardians of ethics.
According to him, A. Armonaitė publicly insulted him on his social network. Commenting on Mr Šimo’s voting method, the MEP spoke disrespectfully and said: “I’m looking for a word and I can’t find it, just a piece of shit.”
The Seimas Ethics and Procedures Commission has also decided to initiate an investigation into the action taken during the vote of the Seimas member Audrius Šimas, which insulted the Jewish community and outraged the Jewish community by reminding him of the Nazi salute.
According to the president of the Ethics and Procedures Commission of Seimas A. Matulas, the investigation has not yet been completed due to the lack of response from some institutions. It is planned to discuss this issue at the next committee meeting.
ELTA recalls that A. Šimas, a member of the Seimas National Security and Defense Committee (NSGC), lamented his behavior in the plenary session of the Seimas, which angered the Jewish community, as raising his hand was reminiscent of the Nazi salute. A. Šimas also apologized to the Lithuanian Jewish community for his actions.
