The knowledge guide traveled a well-known route in the Ukmergso district, so it was impossible to sense such a disaster approaching. In addition, the interlocutor assured that he did not exceed the speed limit and did everything possible to avoid a collision with the animals that suddenly entered the road. Unfortunately, it failed: a deer cub died.

“It just came to our knowledge then. This road is very familiar to me. We took it as a child with my mother to my grandmother in the village. I was driving on a road between two cities that was completely straight, visibility was also good on both sides. I don’t know what deer worked in the freshly plowed land, there were chicks, little deer. And suddenly, some of that soil went out of the way. Sure, I tried to avoid a hit, there was a stop mark in that place, but I missed. One he managed to ask, and the other … ”the interlocutor did not finish the sentence.

“I did not suffer. Thank God nothing serious happened, but these situations are also dangerous because, when an animal escapes, the driver may turn unexpectedly in the opposite direction to avoid a collision and then an even greater accident may occur. It is true. that this road is not congested, but there are other roads in Lithuania where animals run without fencing ”, said R. Vilkončius.

The television presenter also shared the accident on her social networks, where she posted photos of the damaged car and a story.

“When you think you are in control of a situation. When you drive on the highway, you drive a thousand times and you close your eyes, you remember every turn. When you don’t see a single bush around, just a clear field where you have never seen a single animal since childhood. When you see the highway near Vilnius early in the morning, you won’t want a single driver and drive more carefully. It must definitely happen that neither the new generation of headlights nor car security systems can protect against it – the autumn migration of animals, emphasized R. Vilkončius on Facebook and continued. – For me, personally, it is one of the most beautiful animals and I sincerely regret one of them less. The only consolation is that one managed to escape and the other at least left for a moment, without suffering. Thanks to the BPC and Ukmergė Police for their sincere care and professional help. Safe on the road and a prayer for a poor animal. “

When asked why he shared this event in the social space, the interviewer assured that with this message he wanted to send a reminder to the drivers so that they are even more attentive.

“Repetition is the mother of science. People often forget how and what can happen on the road,” says the interlocutor.

“You have to remember that it is an animal and if it has invented that it wants to cross the street, it probably is. Unlikely to stop, appreciate safety. As a result, drivers must be even more careful during the fall season when they migrate, ”he added.

This event on the road reminded R. Vilkončius of another incident that took place just over a year ago. This time he stopped to help the young couple, who had been hit by a moose.

“It just came to our knowledge then. Thank goodness this couple ended up quite well. They are both healthy and a year later they wrote me a message thanking me for stopping by to help them. Good to hear that, although I didn’t really help anyone, I just stopped. on the road after seeing the car accident. They were in shock, so at that time I did not allow them to make dangerous decisions, for example, I saw that the car did not catch fire and the girl sitting in it was seriously injured. I said it would be better not to get them out of the place until the doctors arrived, because the desire to help can often hurt. At times like these you have to calm down. That pair hit a moose chick. It was a terrible situation. Moose legs are long and their body falls on the windshield during an impact, seriously injuring the occupants. “Nobody expects that to happen,” he repeated.

R. Vilkončius says that after such events he is even more aware of the importance of being careful at the wheel.

“And this time I was driving carefully, turning on the high beam, because it was still a scorching morning, I stopped. But it still didn’t help: the animal jumped out of nowhere. The blow could not be avoided. The airbags did not deploy because the animal hit the corner ”, explained the interlocutor.

When asked what his emotional state was at that time, R. Vilkončius did not hide that he felt stress, but the fact that the animal died struck his heart more.

“It just came to our knowledge then. First of all, I feel very sorry for the beast, because it is a very beautiful animal. Sure, there was stress at the time, but I realized that I had to do what I had to do.

First I called the helpline, I told myself everything, they really asked me sincerely if I was okay or I didn’t need help, I made sure everything was really okay. The police officers arrived at the scene fairly quickly, although they were quite far from Ukmergė. During the time I was waiting for them to arrive, I picked up the spilled car parts from the road, because they won’t go away on their own. ” Delphi he told the TV host.

R. Vilkončius, who unexpectedly saw deer running one after another on the road, is just happy that one of them managed to escape.
