Officials found illegal smokers after inspecting a “Man” truck driven by a Ukrainian national who had entered Lithuania from Belarus.
The Ukrainian said he was driving empty to his workplace in Poland, but one of the Vilnius territorial customs officials had suspicions about the floor of the tractor semitrailer, reports MKT.
As he walked through them, the officer had the impression that the floor was solid, there was no echo, typical of the empty cavities of tractor semi-trailer factories.
An inspection of the machine with a mobile X-ray monitoring system revealed that the floor of the semi-trailer was indeed littered with cigarette contraband. In total, officials found more than 17,000 there. Belarusian Fest smoking packages, the value of which, including taxes, is almost 60 thousand. euros.
A pre-trial investigation into this smuggling has been launched in the Vilnius section of the Criminal Customs Service, led by the Vilnius Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
The driver of a tugboat smuggling cigarettes was detained for two months by decision of the Vilnius District Court.
