Interior Ministry: more than 200 Belarusians were able to enter Lithuania for humanitarian reasons

Such permission from the Minister of the Interior will be issued upon receipt of a reasoned proposal from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the entry of a foreigner into the Republic of Lithuania for special humanitarian reasons (eg due to political circumstances or other threats). These permits are granted to Belarusian citizens affected by the regime and repression or persecuted, active members of the opposition.

We remind you that citizens of the Republic of Belarus who wish to enter the Republic of Lithuania for special humanitarian reasons must apply to the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Belarus for the issuance of a Schengen visa and provide information confirming the special humanitarian reasons. A Schengen visa allows entry to the Schengen territory and to stay for the period specified in the visa, but not more than 90 days in any 180-day period from the date of first entry into the territory of the Schengen member states.

Among other things, Belarusian citizens can come to the Republic of Lithuania and apply for asylum if they feel persecuted or if there is a real threat to their safety and life. Lithuania has received 16 asylum applications from Belarusian citizens. Foreigners can submit asylum applications at the border control post, the State Border Guard Service or the Migration Department. After examining an asylum application, one of the forms of asylum is granted – refugee status or subsidiary protection, and a residence permit is issued in the Republic of Lithuania.
