“Due to the decision of the Minsk District Court to declare illegal the strike organized by the Belaruskalij strike committee on August 17, 2020, the members of the strike committee apologize to all employees of the company for the incorrect execution of the strike, “the committee announced on its Telegram channel on Saturday.
At the same time, the strike committee noted that it was continuing its protest on the basis of the United Nations Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, ratified by Belarus, and article 8 of the Belarusian Labor Code.
“The strike committee is declaring an indefinite strike (refusal to work for political reasons),” the report says.
Following the announcement of the results of the presidential elections on August 9 in the country, a chain of company workers launched strikes and other forms of peaceful protests. On August 17, the media reported that work had stopped at all the Belaruskalij mines. Later it became known that a partial strike was taking place at the company.
On August 21, Lukashenko hinted at the possibility of replacing striking Belaruskali workers with miners from other countries, including Ukraine.
Later, the Belaruskalij management announced that the company has been operating at full capacity since August 20.
